The Law 38 of 2010, "Provisions for guaranteeing access to palliative care and pain therapy" represents a model law on the subject worldwide; its contents are also the result of the commitment of civic organizations aimed at protecting the rights and dignity of people in the health sector. In particular, Law 38/2010 transposes and formalizes the provisions of the "Charter of rights on unnecessary pain" and in part of the "European Charter of the rights of the patient" promoted by the Court for the rights of the patient - Cittadinanzattiva, in 2005 and 2002, giving full legitimacy to the "Right to avoid unnecessary suffering and pain" and to the "Right not to suffer unnecessarily", rights for which many organizations of citizens and patients, together with numerous motivated professionals, fought hard, fighting that idea of pain and suffering as unavoidable components of the disease.

#MakeWorkWork for those affected by Neurological Disorders and Chronic Pain Conditions

Active Citizenship Network supports the Written Declaration, under Rule 136 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, on access to employment for those affected by neurological disorders and chronic pain conditions. The initiative is promoted by the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) and Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) with the aim to encourage research into and access to innovative treatments, promote prevention and self-management approaches, decrease stigma and work together to improve quality of life for people living with these disabling conditions.

4 March 2016 - Improving patients’ rights in the age of the Cross Border Healthcare Directive

Active Citizenship Network organized a webinar-conference on 4 March 2016 in Rome, on the topic of “Improving patients’ rights in the age of the Cross Border Healthcare Directive”. The event involved online and on-the-spot participation of national and international experts to debate the European Directive on patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare and the current state of its implementation throughout Europe.
On this occasion, the communication campaign “Patients’ rights have no borders” has been presented for the first time.
