European Patients' Rights Day 2016: the celebration of the 10th Anniversary

Active Citizenship Network has decided to devote the 10th edition of the European Patients’ Rights Day to the issue of “Reducing waste and inefficiency in the Healthcare Systems, increasing quality of patient care”. The European multi­-stakeholder conference will be held on the 4th of May 2016 at the European Parliament in Brussels with the aims to increase the culture of common goods and the fight of each form of waste, fostering the cooperation among different stakeholders - either public or private, civic and institutional - to find useful solutions. “Patients' rights have no borders”

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the European Patients’ Rights Day, Active Citizenship Network has decided to organize a widespread campaign in 2016 in cooperation with some of the national patient associations involved in its network.

Patients want to access cross-border health services when treatment is not available in their home country, when it is managed better elsewhere, or, as in the case of many border areas, when the nearest available care is in another Member State. Currently, cross-border healthcare accounts for approximately 1% of the overall EU public health spending – around €10 billion per year.

“European Civic Prize on Chronic Pain - Collecting Good Practices"

Active Citizenship Network is launching the project ”EU Civic Prize on Chronic Pain - Collecting good practices”. The aim is to give evidence of existing good practices in  European countries in terms of struggle against pain.

Establishing a “European Civic Prize on Chronic Pain”, based on the  selection of the practices presented by different healthcare stakeholders (patients’associations, health professionals, private and public hospitals, universities, etc.) will provide an occasion for demonstrating what this community can offer in terms of good practice and experiences which are useful in raising awareness about the condition, enhancing the body of knowledge of positive cases and success, and strengthening commitment to this topic.

Energy and gas: protection for citizens at risk of poverty

After the presentation to the Senate of our dossier in terms of fuel poverty, "Energy and chronically ill", made with Acquirente Unico, the Authority for Electricity and Gas has shown not only to be able to act very quickly on important issues, but also to carefully consider the "civic" information produced by the associations.
