Fruitful days for the EU funded BioReCer project in Milan (Italy), from 1 to 3 of October, 2024. In particular, the 3rd coordination meeting of the project took place, hosted by UNI Ente Italiano di Normazione where the different partners shared their progress and visited the wastewater treatment plant of Gruppo CAP located in Robecco sul Naviglio.
Citizens, doctors, first responders (Firefighters, Police, Carabinieri, Red Cross, Civil Protection, etc.) united to test innovative tools of the NIGHTINGALE project for responding to mass casualty emergencies. It was a powerful demonstration of collaboration! Special thanks to the volunteers from Cittadinanzattiva APS-Active Citizenship Network for participating and trying out new applications to interact with 112 emergency number and to engage and empower the bystanders on the scene.
Civil organizations and patients’ advocacy groups, together with healthcare professional associations call on European policy-makers to address the health workforce crisis by implementing solutions that prioritize the well-being of health workers, probably the main precondition for better protection of patients' rights across Europe. co-OPERATOR is an innovative Horizon EU4Health funded project that aims to develop a Country-Observatory to share best practices for vaccination promotion.
Indeed, European stakeholders face significant variability in addressing vaccination hesitancy and implementing COVID-19 vaccination campaigns among healthcare providers and the general population. Challenges include widespread hesitancy within the population and variations in the communication skills of healthcare providers. To address these issues, cross-country initiatives play a crucial role in knowledge-sharing, especially considering the observed differences in vaccine coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ACN is pleased to announce the publication of our latest research on the project 'Civil Society promoting vaccination across the life-course'. Through focus groups in Italy, Spain, and France, we explored vaccination's importance throughout life. The project aimed to enhance collaboration with health stakeholders and engage citizens' and patients' associations across Europe to implement vaccination policies effectively. Insights from national focus groups held in 2023 revealed challenges such as a polarized approach to vaccination and communication issues causing confusion. Suggestions include advocating for personalized communication and leveraging digital tools to improve vaccination rates. The importance of evaluating vaccination campaigns was emphasized. How Italy is addressing AMR during its G7 presidency? Welcome the new episode of the podcast series “Superbugs and You” while bidding arrivederci to AMR! This podcast – co-created by Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP-ASP) and the Antimicrobial Resistance Fighter Coalition (ARFC) - features clinicians, advocates, and policy leaders from Italy. The director of Active Citizenship Network and Responsible for EU Affairs at Cittadinanzattiva was involved in the podcast. Experts share the challenges and opportunities in implementing effective stewardship and clinical practice in the Italian healthcare system, as well as how effective policy can transform the landscape to battle AMR. Adult Immunization Board (AIB) country meetings are organized to discuss country specific aspects of adult immunization together with local experts. For these meetings, the Adult Immunization Board – led by the University of Antwerp and University of Florence - inviteslocal academics, health care professionals, public health representatives and policy makers to present on adult immunization strategies implemented in the country, as well as educational and communicative initiatives aimed at increasing adult vaccine acceptance and coverage rates.
