Personalised prevention must become a right for every citizen, not a privilege for a few
The key message from the XX European Patients' Rights Day – as always promoted by Active Citizenship Network at the EU Parliament - is that personalised prevention is not only about technology. It is about the future relationship between citizens and their healthcare systems.  Because innovation alone is not enough. Personalised prevention will succeed only if citizens and patients are recognised as active participants, if it is perceived as fair, understandable, and inclusive. This is also why the EU-funded project PROPHET matters so much. It is not only building a scientific roadmap — it is helping to construct a European model of prevention that combines innovation with trust, equity, participation, and transparency.

“EU Respiratory Health Plan” formally demanded by ACN before the SANT Committee Chair at the European Parliament
At the high-level roundtable on respiratory health held at the European Parliament on May 5th and organized by ACN’s longstanding Polish partner, the Institute of Patient Rights and Health Education (IPPEZ), the Director of ACN delivered a keynote speech titled “A broader narrative on respiratory diseases. A citizens' and patients’ perspective towards the development of an EU Respiratory Health Plan”. In the presence of MEP Adam Jarubas, SANT Committee Chair, ACN officially demanded a comprehensive, patient-centered EU Respiratory Health Plan. Read more: A -B.

Advocating for an “EU Respiratory Health Plan” before the Romanian Parliament
After the EU policy dialogues at the EU Parliament in March and May, the Director of ACN had the opportunity to advocate for the “EU Respiratory Health Plan” before the Romanian Parliament. He delivered the presentation “A broader narrative on respiratory diseases: a citizens' and patients’ perspective” at the event organized by COPAC in partnership with ACN. Vaccine confidence in Europe: fill the online survey!

Closing the Loop: Patients' Rights and Data Return Highlighted at Europe Biobank Week 2026
At Europe Biobank Week 2026 in Prague, Cittadinanzattiva-Active Citizenship Network successfully joined the debate on data return within clinical studies. Contributing to Session 3D with EP PerMed, Cittadinanzattiva-ACN advocated for returning individual participant data “by design”, presenting the FACILITATE project. Empowering citizens to make informed decisions on health data is vital to implementing personalized medicine at scale and fostering public trust. Read more: A - B – C – D - E.

GUIDE-AI at work in Germany
As a consortium member, Cittadinanzattiva-Active Citizenship Network participated 28-29 April in Berlin for the launch of GUIDE-AI, an IHI-funded project led by Charité. This pioneering initiative uses Generative AI to help clinicians master the “guideline jungle”. Focusing on four key areas—Heart Failure, COPD, Kidney Failure, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease—we lead the “People-Centred Innovation” activities to ensure AI integration truly meets patient needs. Shaping the future of prevention: ACN drives patient engagement in precision vaccinology
Following the 20th European Patients' Rights Day on personalized prevention, Active Citizenship Network successfully held its EU workshop on Precision Vaccinology in Brussels under the #VaccinAction2026 EU project. The high-level debates gathered PAGs and civil society leaders to discuss tailored immunization strategies for adult vulnerable groups. Towards the establishment of SIP National Platform in Italy
Cittadinanzattiva-ACN took an active role in the SIP Advocacy Toolkit Training held in Rome, confirming its long-standing commitment to chronic pain at national and EU level. Organised by the Societal Impact of Pain platform, led by EFIC and PAE, the event promoted coordinated advocacy strategies to advance pain policy, protect patients’ rights and support the launch of a SIP National Platform in Italy. Italy: Health protection in prison
Following the "I CARE" initiative, Cittadinanzattiva has stepped up its commitment in Italy with the "I CARE Virology Edition". Dedicated to women incarcerated at Rome's Rebibbia prison, this project promotes accurate information on infectious and sexually transmitted diseases, empowering inmates as active peers in health dissemination and directly fighting social stigma.

OH-FINE at work in Italy
Consumers must be at the centre of the future of the organic farming in Europe. At the EU workshop realized in Rome by Cittadinanzattiva-Active Citizenship Network in the framework of the EU-funded project OH-FINE, 14 consumer organisations from 11 countries discussed how to better connect sustainable agriculture with citizens’ expectations and needs. OH-FINE General Assembly in Switzerland
The EU-funded OH-FINE project General Assembly took place at the FiBL-CH campus in Frick, Switzerland, from 18 to 20 May 2026. Cittadinanzattiva-ACN joined the other consortium partners and the EU Commission’s project officer to review the project's progress. Several aspects were analysed, including the progress made on the OH-FINE Organic Farming Learning Community (OFC) and the Organic Farming Community Platform. Following the assembly, the group visited the renowned 'DOK trial', the world's leading long-term field trial comparing organic and conventional farming systems. Read more: A - B - C – D – E.

Clinical data, the “By Design” breakthrough: the patient becomes a partner in research
TrendSanità – Cittadinanzattiva-ACN media partner - has just published a recap of FACILITATE’s work and the milestone event at the European Parliament. The article highlights a powerful shift: returning individual participant data (RoIPD) must be planned “by design” from the start of a clinical study, transforming patients into research partners. Qualifying the Role of the Vaccination Services from the Citizens’ Perspective: From the Italian Case History to the Implementation of the Eu Council Conclusion on Vaccinations
The case study “Civic monitoring of vaccination services” - promoted in Italy by Cittadinanzattiva - is a concrete example of the role of citizens in supporting vaccination policies. Particularly at the European level, it is crucial to recognise and strengthen the involvement of civil society in vaccination, also for a swift implementation of the Council Conclusions on vaccination of December 2022, focusing on two areas of action: tackling vaccination hesitancy and preparing for the next challenges through EU cooperation. 4–5 June 2026 | Modena (Italy) | “Looking to the Future” - FACILITATE Final Conference
The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) will host the final conference of IHI consortium FACILITATE, titled “Looking to the Future”. From Project to Practice: Operationalizing Reciprocity, Participant-Centered Clinical Research Systems, Data Return, and Responsible Data Reuse. Stakeholders from policy, regulation, industry, patient organizations, ethics, infrastructures, and digital health will reflect on how Return of Individual Participant Data (RoIPD) by design and responsible data reuse can become embedded within future participant-centered clinical research systems. 10 June 2026 | Brussels (Belgium) | IDC Stakeholder Community meeting
Invited by the Interdisciplinary Disease Collaboration on Respiratory Infections and NCDs (IDC), Active Citizenship Network will participate in the IDC Stakeholder Community meeting in Brussels on 10 June 2026. Co-hosted by leading experts, this in-person event brings together NCD risk groups and scientists to discuss prevention and immunization strategies for people with co-morbidities. ACN will join the interactive roundtable to align respiratory health to a strategic EU priority. Read more

10-12 June 2026 | Barcelona (Spain) | European Health Management Conference 2026 (EHMC 2026)
The Director of ACN has been invited to speak at EHMC 2026 in Barcelona in the session "From Underestimated Threat to System Priority: Strengthening Respiratory Infectious Disease Surveillance and Immunisation in Europe". ACN will join this high-level panel to bring patient and citizen perspectives and to advocate for elevating respiratory health to a strategic EU priority. Read more (A – B - C)

11 June 2026 | Brussels (Belgium) | ESWI Respiratory Virus Summit
Invited by ESWI, Active Citizenship Network wil join the ESWI Respiratory Virus Summit, titled “Managing acute respiratory virus infections: Where do we go?”.
The summit bridges virus evolution and EU health policy, featuring key sessions on the innovation pipeline and vaccination in chronic care. ACN will support these high-level panel discussions to advocate for equitable prevention strategies and stronger trust in immunization. Read more

11-12 June 2026 | Rome (Italy) | CIRCONOMY Kick-off Meeting
The official kick-off meeting of the new EU-funded project CIRCONOMY will take place in Rome, hosted by Unitelma Sapienza. CIRCONOMY will implement the call "HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-CIRCBIO-06: Indicators for the transition to sustainable and circular economy" under the Horizon Europe programme of the European Commission.
In Rome, partners will gather to officially launch the initiative and, as a consortium member, Cittadinanzattiva will actively participate, contributing its civic perspective to the upcoming project developments. Read more about the consortium coordinator.

16 June 2026 | Virtual Event | IFA Roundtable: NCDs and Immunisation
Invited by its long-standing partner International Federation on Ageing, Active Citizenship Network will participate in the IFA virtual roundtable titled, “NCDs and Immunisation – Advancing Coordinated Advocacy and Action”. The event will bring together cross-sector stakeholders to align messaging, exchange insights, and identify opportunities for coordinated advocacy to better integrate adult respiratory immunisation within NCD prevention, care, and management. 24 June 2026 │ Brussels (Belgium) │ Final conference RESILIAGE: “Cultural and Natural Heritage for Preparedness and Resilience”
The final conference of the RESILIAGE project will be held at BOZAR in Brussels to discuss how cultural and natural heritage can strengthen community resilience against disasters. Attendees will explore the project's tools and main outcomes. As a project partner, Cittadinanzattiva/ACN invites you to join the event. 25 June 2026 │ EU Parliament, Brussels (Belgium) │ Prevention that Saves: EU Leadership and National Action on Vaccination
As member of the Mission Board on Vaccination in Europe, the Director of Active Citizenship Network will participate to the MBVE event. This European Parliament event – planned from 9.30 to 11.30 on 25 June- will bring together Members of the European Parliament, EU stakeholders and members of the Mission Board on Vaccination in Europe to discuss how vaccination can be better recognised and supported as a strategic investment in prevention, health security and system resilience. The World Federation of Incontinence and Pelvic Problems (WFIPP), a long-standing partner of Active Citizenship Network (ACN) in the context of chronic pain & intimate health conditions, is marking its 20th anniversary. To celebrate, the Federation is convening its Global Summit in Rome. ACN has been invited to join patient advocates, leading clinicians, and policymakers from across the globe, all united to transform the lives of people living with incontinence and pelvic floor conditions. 14-15 September 2026 | London (UK) | 3rd European Cancer and Oncology Congress
The Director of ACN has been invited to speak at this congress focusing on precision oncology and cancer research. His presentation, "Refaming Access to Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) in Europe: A Patient-Centered Call to Action for Policy and Systemic Reform", will highlight recent Italian updates.
