As a partner of the European project FACILITATE, Active Citizenship Network participated as a speaker in the session “Returning biobank data to participants: Closing the loop” during Europe Biobank Week 2026, co-organised by EP PerMed and BBMRI-ERIC. The session featured contributions from experts in biobanking, genomics, clinical research, legal affairs and patient engagement, including representatives of UNIMORE, coordinator of the FACILITATE project.

FACILITATE was presented as a concrete example of how the return of individual participant data can be embedded “by design” within research projects, promoting trust, participant empowerment and responsible innovation. The outcomes of the discussion will contribute to a forthcoming joint report by EP PerMed and BBMRI-ERIC aimed at supporting researchers, policymakers and stakeholders in developing inclusive approaches to returning health data and research results.
