In Italy, Cittadinanzattiva has officially presented the national campaign “1000 Good Days” during an institutional event held at the Nassirya Hall of the Italian Senate. The initiative aims to promote a concrete program of actions to protect the first thousand days of life, from conception to two years of age, asserting every child's right to the best possible start in life regardless of their place of birth or family economic background.

The campaign is supported by an extensive multi-stakeholder Board comprising scientific societies, institutions, professional orders, and universities. Together with Cittadinanzattiva, this network will develop a multidimensional civic platform to connect families, healthcare professionals, educators, and local communities, turning early childhood care into a pillar of social equity and public health. A civic analysis conducted by the organization on Regional Prevention Plans showed deep inequalities across Italy, highlighting why uniform standards are urgently required.

Through the “1000 Good Days Lab”, Cittadinanzattiva will deploy several concrete tools on the ground: free local protection desks to assist families facing barriers to access services or subsidies, participatory local workshops, informal training paths for both parents and social-educational professionals, and a dedicated free digital platform filled with multilingual scientific contents and best practices.

Furthermore, Cittadinanzattiva is expanding this battle to the European stage by proposing the adoption of an “EU First 1000 Days Act”. This legislative proposal aims to transform current EU recommendations into concrete, enforceable rights, establishing common quality standards for maternal-infant healthcare (i.e. including RSV maternal vaccination), nutrition, and education across all EU Member States, thereby countering intergenerational gaps and strengthening European human capital.
