European healthcare is currently under unprecedented strain, driven by an aging population and a 77% burden of chronic diseases. Today, the majority of the €1.7 trillion healthcare budget is spent on treatment, while less than 4% is dedicated to prevention.

To address this urgent challenge, Active Citizenship Network (ACN) has released a new video highlighting the key moments and discussions from the 20th European Patients' Rights Day (EPRD), hosted at the European Parliament.

The video focuses on the critical shift from a reactive healthcare model to personalised prevention. This approach represents an evolution of the patient's right to preventive measures, moving away from a "one-size-fits-all" logic. Instead, it promotes targeted interventions tailored to an individual's genetic, environmental, and lifestyle risk factors to prevent diseases before they appear, progress, or reoccur.

Viewers will also discover the latest findings from the EU-funded PROPHET project, which presented its practical roadmap for integrating personalized prevention into European healthcare systems during the event. As highlighted by the speakers—including MEP Brando Benifei—advanced technology and genomic tools are only part of the solution. To truly make this healthcare revolution a reality, Europe needs public trust, data safeguards, equitable access, and strong political coordination.

Is Europe ready for a new proactive social contract for health? Discover why spending on prevention is a vital investment for our future. Watch the full video on ACN YouTube channel
