On 8 May 2026 in Rome (Italy), Cittadinanzattiva presented its 8th Annual Pharmacy Report, promoted together with Federfarma and with the unconditional support of Teva Pharmaceuticals. The report, based on a survey involving nearly 2,000 pharmacists and more than 1,000 citizens, offers an in-depth overview of the ongoing transformation of community pharmacy in Italy.
The findings confirmed the increasingly central role of pharmacies as trusted healthcare reference points within local communities, providing not only medicines but also prevention services, vaccinations, telemedicine, diagnostic activities and support for therapeutic adherence. Notably, 81.7% of citizens stated that they regularly rely on the same pharmacy because of the trust-based relationship established with pharmacists.
The event also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between pharmacists, general practitioners and other healthcare professionals in order to improve continuity of care, particularly in the prevention and management of infectious diseases and chronic conditions.
Among the most relevant data presented: 95% of pharmacies experienced drug shortages during the last year; almost half already provide vaccination services; more than 70% offer ECG and telemedicine services; and three out of four pharmacies have dedicated spaces for healthcare activities.
The presentation represented an important opportunity to reflect on the future of community pharmacy and its contribution to more accessible, integrated and patient-centred healthcare systems.
