Take #VaccinAction Today – Protect Your Health, Strengthen Europe’s Future
Vaccination is one of the most effective tools we have to protect health and prevent disease.3 Yet across Europe, millions of adults remain unvaccinated, leaving individuals and communities vulnerable to infections that can be prevented and lives that could be saved.4
The #VaccinAction 2025 campaign, led by the Active Citizenship Network (ACN) together with patient advocacy groups across Europe, calls for a stronger focus on adult immunisation as a cornerstone of public health and disease prevention.
Vaccines don’t just protect against infection – they help reduce hospitalisations, support people with chronic conditions and strengthen the resilience of our healthcare systems. Prevention is not only better than cure – it is fairer, safer and smarter.
Why Adult Immunisation Matters
Adult vaccination goes beyond protecting individuals – it supports healthy ageing, strengthens communities and reduces pressure on hospitals.5 Despite decades of scientific evidence showing their benefits, adult immunisation rates remain low across Europe, often due to unequal access, low awareness and lack of policy focus.1
This year, our campaign highlights the voices of patient advocates across Europe who are calling for urgent change:1,2
-
People with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and respiratory illness face higher risks of severe infection – yet vaccination coverage in these groups remains low.
-
Older adults are more vulnerable to even mild infections as immune defences weaken with age. Vaccination can prevent complications, disability and death.
-
Preventable infections can worsen existing health conditions and increase healthcare costs – prevention protects both patients and systems.
-
The economic case is clear: every euro spent on vaccination can return up to €19 in social and economic benefits through reduced illness, absenteeism and hospitalisation.
Vaccine hesitancy remains a major challenge. Misinformation and disinformation continue to erode public confidence, leaving many adults uncertain or unaware of the protection vaccines provide.
Through #VaccinAction 2025, we aim to:
-
Empower citizens with reliable, evidence-based information.
-
Tackle misinformation through trusted voices, including patient advocates and health professionals.
-
Promote open dialogue about vaccine safety, access and equity.
When people trust vaccines, communities thrive.
Addressing Gaps in Protection
Across Europe, adult immunisation is still underused and underfunded. While childhood vaccination is well established, adults are too often left out of national plans. This lack of focus deepens existing inequities – particularly among older adults, people with disabilities and those living with chronic diseases.
Through this campaign, we are working with national patient advocacy groups to highlight:
-
The need to make adult vaccination a policy priority across all EU Member States.
-
The importance of life-course immunisation, ensuring that protection continues from childhood through adulthood and into later life.
-
The urgency of accessible, inclusive vaccination services that reach all citizens, including those in rural or low-income communities.
An EU Health Policy that truly delivers #CareForAll must put adult immunisation at its core.
The Power of Prevention
Vaccination is prevention in action – protecting individuals and reducing the strain on overstretched health systems. For those with chronic conditions, getting vaccinated means avoiding infections that could cause hospitalisation or long-term complications. For healthcare systems, prevention means freeing up capacity and resources.
As one advocate from Greece shared: “For people with chronic conditions, vaccination is prevention - it protects health and reduces pressure on hospitals. We need to make uptake higher.”
By boosting adult immunisation, we can build a Europe where prevention is prioritised - not postponed.
Join the #VaccinAction Movement
By engaging with our campaign – watching, sharing and learning from patient voices – you can help:
-
Raise awareness of adult vaccination and its benefits.
-
Support the call for a coordinated EU Adult Immunisation Strategy.
