Vaccination Informal Platform (V.I.P.) for life-course immunization promotion
Focus on VPRDs: flu, pneumococcal pneumonia, RSV
In recent years, respiratory diseases have become one of the most significant health challenges of the modern world. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted this urgent health issue and called for long-term strategies to combat these diseases. Respiratory diseases are among the most common reasons for adult hospitalization, contributing to substantial direct treatment costs.
Experts and available scientific data indicate that many respiratory diseases can be mitigated at a relatively low cost through preventive vaccinations, such as those against influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and COVID-19. Vaccination remains the most effective form of protection and a cornerstone of modern public health. To maximize the resilience of our society and health system to future pandemics and the growing problem of respiratory diseases, it is essential to prioritize prevention and public education. Additionally, significantly expanding vaccination programs and developing and implementing a life-cycle vaccination strategy that includes adults is crucial.
Beyond COVID-19 (to which we will dedicate a specific in-depth day), we have a trio of vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases (VPRDs). It is imperative to ensure that influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are all on the radar of Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs) active in vaccination promotion.
For this reason, with the valuable collaboration of independent experts, Active Citizenship Network is organizing an exclusive, invitation-only full-day workshop for leaders of civic and patient associations. This event is designed for those who are committed to intensifying their efforts within their respective contexts.
This initiative is part of the European project #VaccinAction2024, which continues the work done in previous years with #VaccinAction (see here for 2021, 2022, 2023) and aligns with our long-standing commitment to vaccination policies at both the national and EU levels.
